This page is all about the healthy diet known as the Mediterranean diet that people on the Costa Blanca area of Spain enjoy.

The amount of heart disease, cancer and other illness in this area is much lower than in northern Europe - of course this could also be attributed to the lower stress levels and slower pace of life but nevertheless, around the world the Mediterranean diet consisting of fresh fruit, vegetables, olive oil and lots and lots of fish is known to be recommended to stay healthy.

The typical diet and foods eaten by people in the Costa Blanca area of Spain is known as the Mediterranean diet. This is now known and recognised by nutrition experts to be one of the healthiest diets in the whole world.

So even if you are not living in the Costa Blanca it would be a good idea to try buying these foods and ingredients to keep your body healthy.

So what does the Mediterranean diet consist of?

Well typically it is fresh fruit such as the local oranges, strawberries, cherries, grapes, plums, and lemons. Vegetables, salads, avocados, tomatoes, figs, olives, garlic, spinach, seeds, lentils and nuts. Anything cooked should be cooked in olive oil. Perhaps most importantly - fish giving high doses of omega 3 oils.

What doesn't the Mediterranean diet consist of?

The McDonald's culture of fast food, hamburgers, red meat and the English diet with it's many fried and frozen foods is available on the Costa Blanca but locals keep this to a minimum and do tend to stick to the traditional Mediterranean diet - especially when cooking and eating at home.

Luckily the local weather conditions and climate mean there is an abundance of fresh local produce and being next to the Mediterranean, fresh fish is readily available.

The Mediterranean diet gives the body a lot of fibre, phytochemicals, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals which improves the health and energies of the body and fights off illness and disease.

Many people move to the Costa Blanca area of Spain for a better life. Of course the benefits of living in Spain include the weather and climate and relaxed, unstressed way of life but the food and healthy Mediterranean diet is also part of the lifestyle and enjoying this will help us live longer and be able to do more activities and truly enjoy what the Costa Blanca has to offer.
