WHAT IS A B&B OR B AND B?

B&B is the typical abbreviation and is typically used to describe a bed-and-breakfast type of accommodation.

Bed and breakfast is accommodation offered by a private owner in which you will stay in their own house and also receive breakfast the next morning. Often regarded as very good value accommodation, there is no rating system so the standard will vary widely from location to location.

At a B&B in Spain, sometimes the bedrooms are en-suite, sometimes guests have to share a communal bathrooms. In the morning breakfast is served which is included in the price.

There are a number of bed and breakfast options available to you in Spain which the advantages are you will be staying with a local owner who can give you a unique insight into life in Spain and the surrounding local area. You would simply not get this at other Spanish accommodation and lodging options such as hotels, apartments, hostels or pensions.

Typically bed and breakfasts are usually found in more remote areas of Spain and therefore if you are looking to be close to a number of tourist facilities such as beaches, restaurants, bars and shops then staying at the bed-and-breakfast will properly not be for you. Also there typically rule location means car hire is usually absolutely essential.

In Spain B&Bs are known as Casa Rural. If you are from another country you may find that a B&B is very similar to a gîtes du passant, gîtes d'hote, Chambres d'hôtes, Gastzimmer, Gästezimmer or Casa de Familia.

Often bed and breakfasts in Spain are situated away from the busy coasts in slightly inland and rural locations which means you get to explore the real Spain away from the busy tourist resorts.

In some regions and provinces of Spain B&Bs are controlled and inspected but in other areas they are not.
