ORIHUELA GUIDE AND INFORMATION

Orihuela is a mid size city with just over 50,000 inhabitants located inland on the Southern Costa Blanca around fifty kilometres to the south west of Alicante with its airport and between Murcia and Elche. Orihuela can best be reached on the N340 if travelling from Alicante. Orihuela is also close to the large town of Torrevieja.

Orihuela the city should not be confused with what is known as the Orihuela Costa which is the coastal strip in the area and is actually about 19 km from the city of Orihuela. The Orihuela Costa stretches from Torrevieja to Mil Palmeras and comprises sandy beaches and rocky coves with many built up tourist resorts full of apartment blocks.

Orihuela is a two hour plane ride from most U.K. airports. If you would like to go on holiday to Orihuela then you can choose either Murcia or Alicante as your flight destinations. Orihuela is the main city in the Vega Baja area which is an important agricultural zone where citrus farming is the main activity. This a beautifully rich, green and fertile valley where one can drive through the orange and lemon groves. Orihuela is a typically Spanish city where people live and work and many expats have made their homes in Orihulela so they can live amongst the Spanish instead of the expats which is what life is all about on the Costas of Spain.

The nearest beaches to Orihuela on the Orihuela Costa are La Zenia, Mil Palmeras, Cabo Roig, Punta Prima and Playa Flamenca. If you are staying in the coastal resorts then Orihuela makes for a good day out as you will be able to see a cathedral and the Palace of Rublacalva.

ORIHUELA WEATHER AND TEMPERATURES 2012 AND CLIMATE

Orihuela weather is a typical Mediterranean climate with a long hot summer and short cool winter, numbering a staggering almost 315 days of annual sunshine.

Orihuela also has a bowling club and a market every Friday offering everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to flowers and leather goods.

EXCURSIONS FROM ORIHUELA

Staying in or near Orihuela is ideal if you want to experience the typical Spanish lifestyle but within a short drive of Orihuela there are many tourist resorts and activities such as the water park called Aquapolis close to Torrevieja. Torrevieja is also known for its superb promenade, restaurants, the Habaneras shopping centre and the popular market on Fridays.

There are a number of other historic cities within an hour's drive of Orihuela - noteably Murcia, Cartagena, Elche and Alicante.
