WORKING IN IBIZA AND JOB VACANCIES IN IBIZA

job-ibiza-graphicIbiza is the third largest of the Balearic Islands. Ibiza does have some extremely beautiful scenery when you get away from the mass tourist centres and you will find some lovely unspoilt beaches.

Nevertheless Ibiza is famous and renowned for it's club scene, attracting nightlife lovers from all over the world and superstar DJs who play at night clubs such as Space, Cream and Pasha.

If you are aged 30 or below and looking for Spain jobs then definitely look into working in Ibiza.

Most of the jobs advice on this page is aimed towards jobs in Ibiza for English-speaking people.

This is because many of our readers are English, British, Germans or Americans who have a limited ability to speak Spanish and therefore are looking for English-speaking jobs in Ibiza.

Ibiza

GETTING TO IBIZA

Ibiza's airport is situated about 5 miles (8km) southwest of Ibiza Town the island's capital (also known as Eivissa). There is an hourly bus service from the airport to the town centre during the daytime. From the capital there are buses to most destinations on the island.

JOBS IN IBIZA

Try searching for jobs in Ibiza Town where the world-famous Pacha nightclub stands. To the south of Ibiza Town is the beach resort of Playa d'en Bossa with the longest Blue Flag beach on Ibiza. Two popular nightclubs, Space and Bora Bora, are both located here, as is the Aguamar water park.

For more chances of finding a job in Ibiza head a few miles to the north of Ibiza town to the resort of Santa Eulalia. These resorts tend to be popular with families. For the wild nightlife in Ibiza head for San Antonio where the young crowd go and where you stand the best chance of finding work.

Many people watch the sun go down at the 'Sunset Strip' to the west of the centre of San Antonio. The most famous bar here is the Cafe del Mar. Also here is Cafe Mambo and Savannah.

The biggest nightclub in San Antonio, Es Paradis, is located in the West End area along with Eden, which regularly attracts top DJ's. The West End is also home to many British bars, pubs and discos providing plenty of opportunities for jobs. A few miles east of the town are the two biggest nightclubs on the island, Privilege and Amnesia.

BAR JOBS IN IBIZA - HOTEL JOBS IN IBIZA

Ibiza being a popular tourist destination has many job openings and vacancies in the catering trades such as cook, waiter, dishwasher, bar tender, cleaner, animators, dancers etc. Many people come to Ibiza for the summer season looking for seasonal bar jobs in Ibiza and you will usually get a summer job in Ibiza fairly easily.

Without doubt if you are looking for a job in Ibiza or Ibiza jobs, then bar work and bar jobs are the most common type of job available.

There are also plenty of other jobs in the tourist sector notably hotel jobs in Ibiza such as holiday reps, cleaners, receptionists etc.

SUMMER JOBS IN IBIZA 2012

There are also lots of opportunities for summer jobs in Ibiza. It is however important to know that if you do choose to work in the tourist industry that the work is seasonal mainly from March until October and that the wages paid are about 60% of what is earned by your Northern European counterparts, although the cost of living is 90% of that of Northern Europe.

These jobs are great for students. Typical jobs you could look for include PR jobs for clubs, holiday rep jobs in Ibiza and DJ jobs in Ibiza. If you are a dancer you stand a good chance of finding a job in one of the top clubs such as Space or Eden.

A limited knowledge of the Spanish language is ideal but not compulsory, making these kind of jobs fiercely competitive between all nationalities across the board.

Very popular on the job scale in this field are cleaning jobs in Ibiza as they are well paid, in abundance and all year round as people's homes as well as villa companies require cleaners.

Work in the tourist industry is mainly done in shifts or split shifts. On the positive side you can spend your time off at the beaches of Ibiza but this type of work is really no good if you have a young family to support as the hours are long.

These are the best-known resorts to look for summer jobs in Ibiza: Cala Llonga, Es Cana, Figueretas, Formentera, Ibiza Town, Playa D'en Bossa, Portinatx, Puerto San Miguel, S'argamassa, Sa Caleta, Ibiza, San Antonio, San Antonio Bay, San Jose, Santa Eulalia and Talamanca.

HOW TO FIND WORK IN IBIZA AND WHERE BEST TO FIND JOBS

Jobs in Ibiza can be found by the usual means of internet, radio, newspaper, word of mouth etc. There is a lot of competition for jobs in Ibiza so it is important that you apply for a job with a contract. For job adverts try the classified section in the Ibiza Sun.

These kind of jobs will entitle you to the Spanish state pension, a limited unemployment benefit and of course access to medical care via the Spanish national health service. As your new employer will also be paying his fair share of these contributions he will make sure he employs the best candidate for the job.

Of course there are many other Ibiza jobs just like anywhere else such as lawyer, doctor, teacher, nurse, policemen, pharmacist and shop assistants etc.

Working hours differ greatly from Northern Europe due to the extreme heat. A typical Spanish working day starts at ten in the morning until one and then everyone has a siesta. Work resumes at four in the afternoon until around eight in the evening. Most of these jobs require a good working knowledge of the Spanish language.

HOLIDAY REP JOBS IBIZA

The smart way to find work and jobs in Ibiza is to apply for a job as a holiday rep. These jobs will be arranged in advance so do not turn up in the sort of expecting to find these jobs.

Working as a holiday rep in Ibiza is certainly not as easy as it looks. You would need to be on hand night and day should any emergencies occur concerning the holidaymakers who have travelled with the tour operator you work for.

Holiday reps also have to sell tourist excursions to the guests as part of their wages. So the more you can get people to pay for these trips, the more commissions you will earn. At least you will be earning a basic salary as well is being employed by a major company who will also provide accommodation in Ibiza.

STARTING A BUSINESS IN IBIZA OR BUYING A BUSINESS

Alternatively of course if you don’t fancy working for someone in Ibiza there is always the possibility of going the self-employed route, by setting up your own business in Ibiza. It is important to take note that you will need to pay at least 250 Euros monthly in compulsory social security contributions as well as VAT or IVA which is due from the first Euro and on every Euro you earn.

IVA is currently 18% so you have to come to Spain with good starting capital to be able to make a go of it. Alternatively of course you can always buy an already established business in Ibiza which can be easier on your nerves and wallet in the long run.

HOW TO GET A JOB IN IBIZA

Many jobs in Ibiza that are really popular with English people are in the real estate sector. Second to the tourist industry jobs, jobs in the construction industry have been the driving force in the Spanish economy over the last decade and of course there are many real estate agencies in Ibiza selling houses, apartments, villas, fincas, guest houses, hotels etc.

There are almost as many real estate offices in Ibiza as there are bars and restaurants. Of course branching off real estate are the tradesmen associated with housing such as plumbers, electricians, plasterers, tillers, painters etc. These jobs are probably amongst the most highest possible earnings and best paying jobs in Ibiza.

Popular self-employed businesses in Ibiza are specialty English shops and villa maintenance companies, villa rental and apartment rental agencies. As there are so many villas and apartments in Ibiza being rented by owners and companies, so there are many companies (and therefore jobs) to supply services to service the properties such as gardening services, pool cleaning services and even just general care and maintenance.
