To make the best of your visit and holiday we cover everything you need to know about Puerto Rico. We also have photos, picture galleries, views, videos and webcams of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is situated on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria. The resort is popular with families and couples, although its numerous steep hills mean it's not suitable for the elderly. Puerto Rico has two man-made beaches, a couple of marinas, numerous bars and restaurants, plus sunshine all year round. It may receive some criticism for not being a particularly attractive resort, but Puerto Rico has everything you need for a great family holiday. PUERTO RICO BEACHESPuerto Rico's main beach is situated within a sheltered bay between two marinas. The gently sloping sands, which have been imported from the Sahara, are perfect for young children. There are various bars and restaurants alongside the beach, as well as a couple of public swimming pools set within lush, tropical gardens. Further along the coast is the larger Playa de Amadores. The fine, pale sand on this beach has come all the way from the Caribbean. Two large breakwaters protect Playa de Amadores, so it is also ideal for small kids. Facilities such as toilets, bars, restaurants and shops are all situated nearby. The resort offers a huge choice of fishing trips, glass-bottom boat cruises and catamaran sailing trips from its two marinas. There is also a regular ferry service along the coast to the nearby towns of Arguineguin and Puerto de Mogan. The latter is a picturesque former fishing village with a small beach and several good restaurants and bars. A popular excursion from Puerto de Mogan is the Yellow Submarine Tour which explores wrecks on the seabed. There is a range of water sports available in Puerto Rico, including diving, water-skiing, jet skiing, paragliding and windsurfing. The Centro Civico is the largest of Puerto Rico's three main shopping complexes. You can buy almost everything here including food, duty-free goods, electrical items, jewelry and clothing. The resort's other two shopping centres are Europa and Agua la Perra. A few miles from Puerto Rico is the small town of Arguineguin, which hosts a large market every Tuesday. Be prepared to haggle though if you want to find yourself a bargain. PUERTO RICO NIGHTLIFEMuch of Puerto Rico's nightlife is centred on the Centro Civico. Some of the most popular bars here include La Fiesta, which provides family entertainment, and the lively Harley's Dancing. The resort's hottest nightspot is the Jokers nightclub, which often stays open until around 6am. There are more bars close to the Europa Centre, including the entertainment pub, Barbacoa. Puerto Rico offers an excellent choice of places to eat out, from fast food outlets such as McDonalds, to expensive French restaurants like Oliver’s in the marina. Puerto Rico's Aqua Park is situated on the outskirts of the resort. With its variety of pools and waterslides, plus a restaurant and kindergarten, the water park provides a good day out for the whole family. There are buses from Puerto Rico to Mogan, Puerto de Mogan and the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The timetable can be a little unreliable though, so you may have to be patient.
