THE ALGAR FALLS

The Algar Falls or Fuentes del Algar as they are known locally are a natural beauty found behind the hills of Altea near Callosa d’en Sarria and La Nucia on the Costa Blanca. They are also known as Les Fonts de L'Algar.

As seen on the second season of the popular television show Benidorm, these water falls are a great place to visit to have a picnic and go for a dip in the pools of the Algar Falls. Please note that even in the hottest summers the water will appear to be quite cold and can be seen as Mother Nature's answer to the water parks of Benidorm.

The drive to the Algar Falls is quite a spectacle in itself, with terraces of almond and orange trees covered in nets, this area with its natural springs is clearly a provider of most of the fruits and other produce we have regularly on our tables.

This is a good day out for locals and holiday makers alike and locals come from quite afar to have a swim in the refreshing Algar Springs. For hikers and people who enjoy going on walking tours this is a great place of natural beauty and should definitely be seen as a must when visiting the Costa Blanca. Make sure you bring a good pair of walking shoes and sturdy legs. On site there is also a botanical garden as an added bonus featuring over five hundred different species of cacti set in fifty thousand square meters.

They do charge an entrance fee at the Algar Falls just a small charge of €2 per person to maintain the trails and bridges. It is quite a good long walk, so if you would like to come pick the right time of day because during the summer months it does get very hot and it is a steep climb.

At the Algar Falls you can enjoy lunch or dinner as there are child friendly restaurants there some with play areas and a pool. A visit to the Fuentes de Algar is often accompanied by a visit to Guadalest which is nearby.
