CALPE OKTOBERFEST - OCTOBER FESTIVAL IN CALPE 2012Oktoberfest is a typically German tradition which Calpe loves to celebrate. Each sea side resort on the Costa Blanca has been stereo typed for example Javea is for the English, Altea for the Dutch and Calpe is for the Germans and each year Calpe goes to town on it. This year Calpe is celebrating Oktoberfest from the 7th of October until the 17th. Don’t be surprised to see many Germans walking around in the German national costume of Dirndl and Lederhosen drinking large tankards of beer. The Oktoberfest is one of the most popular festivals on the Costa Blanca organised this year by the Carnaval Club Calpe Association and Calpe Town Hall. There are new events being introduced into the schedule for Oktoberfest 2010 such as the happy Hour with prices being reduced on the price of beer, sausages, ham hocks and other typically German dishes. There is also the newly introduced Tourist Day with paella contests and a day devoted to jazz. The Oktoberfest tent this year will be the biggest to date and is located in the Calpe Silence d’Ifach school. On the day of the opening of the festival there will be the traditional tapping of the Paulaner beer barrel, the farewell of the 2009 Oktoberfest queen and the crowning of the new Oktoberfest queen in the evening and a non stop party with Andy and the Steinberger. During the ten days of the festival you can enjoy the Andy and the Steinberger Show and the beer mug lifting contest, the Steinbergers will provide music from the 70’s 80’ and 90’s, midnight shows with Franzi and Nicki. On tourist day you can enjoy snacks and live country music with the Prospectors, paella contest and Oldies and Goldies with Bernd and a log sawing contest. Snacks and live jazz with the New Orleans Hot Dogs and more music show and the Bavarian traditional men’s dance contest. You can also enjoy the Zicke Zacke Heu Heu and Oaner Geht Noch at the non stop party. On the last day of the festival the following activities are on the schedule there is live rock and roll, hilly billy and country music, with the Prospectors, the Gatos Viejos, Old School Rockers, After Midnight and Big Jack’s Rhythm and Blues Band. This is every mans’ opportunity to enjoy a very traditional German festival in Calpe!
