SUMMER IN ALTEA

Summer in Altea is noted for high temperatures between 25 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius during the day. Even in the evening temperatures in the summer in Altea rarely drop below 15 degrees Celsius.

In August the weather in Altea is at it's hottest with some days reaching 40 degrees Celsius or more. Because of Altea's position right on the Costa Blanca coast there are often sea breezes which make the weather a bit more bearable.

Also Altea's humidity is low so that also makes the temperature feel lower than it actually is. Be sensible and try stay out of the sun during the heat of the day. A high sun cream factor is essential especially if you are on one of Altea's beaches.

WINTER IN ALTEA

The weather in Altea in winter is very mild compared to northern Europe. Most winter days in Altea are clear and sunny. The temperatures can vary greatly in winter however, one day it can be over 20 degrees Celsius and you will be walking around in your t-shirt, on another day it can be 6 degrees Celsius and feel very cold.

If you are visiting Altea in winter be careful to ensure that if you rent a villa or apartment that it has some form of heating, preferably central heating. Houses in Spain are built so that they are cool in summer but that unfortunately means they are not insulated and can be very cold in winter.

Even in the winter it doesn't rain much in Altea with November being the wettest month. The exception is when Altea experiences a 'Gota Fria' - this happens when the temperature suddenly drops resulting in incredible torrential rain and flooding. The Gota Fria also creates huge waves and high tides which often destroys Altea's beaches.

Altea is situated on the Costa Blanca and The World Health Organisation describes the climate of the Costa Blanca as one of being the best in the world. Altea's summers are hot but not too hot due to the cooling breezes and the winters in Altea are mild with many clear blue sunny days.
